The closer we get to Christmas, the fewer releases are dropping so I may be stretching a bit on this weeks new releases but I think I have found 5 solid ones. Having said that, let’s give this a whirl.

Ashley Campbell
Something Lovely
Whistle Stop Records

Let’s get this out of the way. Yes, this is Glen Campbell’s daughter. Not fair to her to have to endure that but, she’s gonna be just fine with making her own way if she keeps this up. The production here is great and the songwriting is top notch as well. Campbell’s delivery is spot on. This may be a bit too slick for some and it gets a bit cheesy at times but it’s a star in this weeks releases. Vince Gill helps out on “If I Wasn’t” and Carl Jackson backs Campbell’s solid banjo chops on “Mustache Man”.

Bert Jansch
Best of Live
Secret Records

A double LP release from Scottish folk singer and former member of the band Pentangle, Bert Jansch. The release was recorded Live in April of 2006 at The Sheffield Memorial Hall in the UK.

Dave Alvin
From An Old Guitar: Rare And Unreleased Recordings
Yep Roc Records

Downey, CA native Dave Alvin grew up chasing rockabilly and country music acts in LA with his brother Phil before forming The Blasters. In 1986 Dave parted from The Blasters to pursue solo endeavors and also spent time as a member of the punk band X and the rockabilly/country/folk act The Knitters.. This a a 16 song collection curated by Alvin that features bits and pieces that he had an eye on over the years to release.

Drive-By Truckers
The New OK
ATO Records

I had my tickets to see The Drive-By Truckers in Boise, ID on their tour to support The Unraveling and along came Covid. I still have the tickets…. The New OK is made up of the songs left over from The Unravelling with a few new ones written since. It’s still great southern rock-n-roll!

Nisse Hellberg
Goda Tider Rullar In
Gamlestans Grammofon

Can you make americana music in Sweden? Well, this may be exhibit A. I gotta admit I am digging pretty deep on this one but it really is a solid album of roots-type americana music. Now, it’s all in Svenska (Swedish) so you’ll have to get past the language barrier… and my reach.
